Kim Carnes Picture
Kim Carnes (born July 20, 1945 in Los Angeles, California) is an American singer-songwriter. She is noted for her distinctive, raspy voice which she attributes to many hours spent singing in smoky bars and clubs. Carnes was a member of New Christy Minstrels from 1966 until 1970. Kenny Rogers was also a member, and during this time Carnes met and married Dave Ellingson, with whom she would write most of her songs. For a short while in the early 1970s, she and Ellingson formed the folk duo Kim and Dave, which was not successful.

Don't Pick Up The Phone (Pick Up The Phone) Lyrics

Kim Carnes

(Kim Carnes/Bill Cuomo)

I have got this friend
She's looking all over town
And she just can't imagine why
She can't find anyone
And when she finds a good boy
She pulls the rope too tight
And then she sends them all out
Screaming in the night

854-7256
Don't pick up the phone
Pick up the phone
Don't pick up the phone
Pick up the phone
Don't let 'em know
That you're home alone
Don't pick up the phone
Pick up the phone
Don't pick up the phone
Pick up the phone
Don't let 'em know
That you're all alone

I have got this friend
She travels 'round the sun
She's just looking for the magic
She's just trying to sind someone
And when she finds a good boy
She pulls the rope too tight
And then she sends them all out
Screaming in the night

854-7256
Don't pick up the phone
Pick up the phone
Don't pick up the phone
Pick up the phone
Don't let 'em know
That you're home alone
Don't pick up the phone
Pick up the phone
Don't pick up the phone
Pick up the phone
Don't let 'em know
That you're all alone

I have got this friend
She's looking all over town
And she just can't imagine why
She can't find anyone

That you're home alone

Pick up the phone
Don't pick up the phone
Pick up the phone
Don't let 'em know
That you're all alone
Don't pick it up just because you're all alone
